Meet Our Coaches
JHMA COACH Darlene Crumly
Coach Darlene Crumly is the Associate Director for our Coaching Staff, and Administrative Services Manager. She teaches Voice, Artist Development, Ukulele, and beginner Piano. She was an acting major at Cal State Fullerton, and particularly enjoys musical theatre. She is also actively involved in worship ministry as the Worship Director at her church, and choreographs for her high school show choir.
JHMA COACH Chloe Mackay
Coach Chloe teaches violin, viola, cello, piano, and beginning voice. She comes from a musical family, with an older sister that also plays violin and a twin brother that is a cellist. Chloe started studying piano at age 8 and violin at age 10. She is pursuing a Music minor at APU, with a Political Science major because she feels that’s where she’s needed. However, she does prefer the atmosphere of teaching music and playing in various music ensembles. Outside of school, Chloe enjoys reading, writing, and learning sign language.
JHMA COACH Angelique Calvillo
Coach Angelique received her Bachelor of Science in Music Production at Full Sail University. She spent a few years in Nashville, TN where she taught voice and developed her skills as a songwriter and producer. Here at the Academy, Coach Angelique is one of our Artist Development Coaches and teaches Voice and Songwriting, beginner Piano and Drums. She is also our Recording Engineer specializing in Pro Tools.
JHMA COACH Nahum Chinchilla
Coach Nahum Chinchilla! Nahum teaches Piano, Flute, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Ukulele, and Voice in English and Spanish, at the John Henny Music Academy. He also specializes in Music Composition and helps several of our aspiring student songwriters.
Nahum is excited to share his passion and ignite your own for music and music education. He was actually discouraged from pursuing music when he was younger, but pressed forward anyway and never looked back. Despite the disadvantages he felt he had, he auditioned for the music program at Cal State Northridge and was accepted on the spot. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Trumpet Performance and Music Composition.
JHMA COACH Mason Haynie
Coach Mason Haynie is our "String King" here at the Academy and currently teaches Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano, Ukulele, and beginner Drums. He also specializes in music theory, composition, songwriting and audio recording. In fact, he has a degree Commercial Music: Audio Recording from APU. Mason hopes to one day serve as a house engineer for an L.A.-based studio, and is currently engineering a podcast for a nonprofit studio in Pico Rivera. He finds teaching to be exhilarating since it allows him to share the joys of music and learning with others.
JHMA COACH Gabriel Fernandez
Gabriel Fernandez is a great artist, and has a passion for graphic design. He also enjoys photography, editing, and sound engineering and producing. Not only that, he plays guitar and sings in a band, with which he completed a Mid-West tour here in the U.S. and a European tour. He teaches beginning Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Ukulele in English and Spanish at the John Henny Music Academy.
